Companies may be putting their data at risk by using downloadable desktop search products to deal with large amounts of data, a Forrester analyst has warned.
A report by Leslie Owens has told companies to adopt enterprise-worthy desktop search tools, reports CIO magazine.
In a survey of 565 people who use computers at work, 32 per cent said they had downloaded desktop search software.
Ms Owens believed that consumers like this software because pre-installed search tools prove inadequate.
'People are just looking for productivity enhancers because there is just so much information to look through,' she told the magazine.
However, using these tools can be dangerous, with Ms Owens citing a few examples.
Email discovery can become difficult, because of email replication required by the software.
